Best pickleball training apps in 2026: an honest comparison

Disclosure: we make ShadowSwing. We've tried to describe it fairly, and it does one job on this list. Every other app is described from its maker's own site or App Store listing, checked on 22 October 2026 (SwingVision's details were checked on 19 October 2026).

Camera and AI apps (PB Vision, SwingVision, Pickle Sensei, PaddleMind) suit players who get court time and want feedback on filmed play or on single strokes. Drill apps (Pickleball Drills, PB Drills, Practice Pickleball, Coach Pickle) suit players who want structured sessions to run with a partner, against a wall or alone. A home swing app like ShadowSwing, which we make, suits players who want swing reps with no court, ball or partner.

We make ShadowSwing. Prices are as listed on 22 October 2026 and change often, so check before you pay. New pickleball apps launch every month; we add them once we've checked them.

How we compared them

Six things, in this order. What the app actually does and how: match video, one recorded stroke, a drill library, a chat coach or phone motion. What you need: a court, a mount, a ball, a partner or none of those. Platforms, as the maker states them. Price as listed on the official site or App Store, with the date. Whether there's a free way to try it. And who it suits. There's no overall score. Each app gets a "best for" for its job. If we couldn't confirm something from the app's own pages, we left it out.

AI analysis of your match video

PB Vision

PB Vision, from Pickleball Vision AI Inc., analyzes match video. Its App Store listing says it produces shot-by-shot stats (drives, drops, dinks, lobs and third shots), an overall skill rating plus ratings for serve, return, offense, defense, consistency and agility, highlights you can bookmark and annotate, and an AI coach chat about your match data. It's on iPhone (iOS 16 or later), iPad and Apple Watch, and it also has a Google Play listing.

Price on the US App Store: free to download with in-app purchases. The listing shows Starter at $19.99 and $99.99, Premium at $49.99 and $399.00, and minute packs from $9.99 to $99.99. It doesn't say which are subscriptions, so check in the app.

SwingVision

Its App Store name is SwingVision: Tennis Pickleball, so pickleball is part of the app, not an add-on. It records on an iPhone or iPad on iOS 18 or later, on a mount, and swing.vision says there's no Android version yet (see tennis apps for Android). We checked its details on 19 October 2026 and didn't re-check what its pickleball mode reports, so look at that before you pay.

US App Store: Plus $14.99 a month or $95.99 a year; Pro $24.99 a month or $179.99 a year; Max $39.99 a month or $299.99 a year.

AI analysis of a single stroke

Pickle Sensei

Pickle Sensei: Dink Coach, from a solo developer, launched this fall and is on iPhone (iOS 15.1 or later) with no Android version. You prop your phone side-on at waist height at the court and record one stroke. The App Store listing says it tracks your body pose and returns an estimated player rating, a technique score out of 10, checkpoint scores and coaching cues. It covers the serve, return, forehand and backhand drives, dinks, third shot drops, volleys and overhead smashes, and has a library of 40+ drills. Its Product Hunt page and developer write-up say the analysis runs on the phone and the video doesn't leave it. It's the one app here that watches your body on camera, which ShadowSwing doesn't.

Price on the US App Store: free to download with one free rating per sign-in. Pro for unlimited ratings is $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year; a $159.99 lifetime option is also listed.

PaddleMind

PaddleMind: Pickleball Coach, from developer Arda Ersoy, came out on the App Store on 15 October 2026 and is on iPhone (iOS 15.6 or later) with no Android version we could find. You record, or import, a 5 to 15 second clip of one shot. The listing says the analysis runs on your phone and that videos and history stay on it. It picks one priority correction and a short drill, with shot scores and a history you can compare. It covers serves, dinks, drives, third shot drops, volleys, and forehand and backhand technique, and the listing shows English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish. It needs no account, and says your full body and paddle must be in the frame. It had no ratings yet when we checked.

Price on the US App Store: free to download, with the first two successful analyses free. PaddleMind Pro for unlimited analyses is $3.99 a week, $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year.

AI coach chat with drills

Coach Pickle

Coach Pickle works more like a chat coach. Its site (coachpickle.ai) says you can ask about technique, strategy and rules, follow a daily drill, get practice plans, and record a drill or a match for video feedback with timestamped fixes. It also lets you pick a coaching personality. The site says it runs on web, iPhone and Android with one account, while the App Store listing shows iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. We could not confirm from the site whether the video is processed on your phone or uploaded.

Price: the site offers a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers, then $49.99 a year or $8.99 a month. The US App Store listing shows several plans with monthly limits on messages and video analysis, from $4.99. The two don't match, so check the price in the app you download.

PB Drills

PB Drills (its website, pickleballdrills.ai, calls it Pickleball Drills AI) is from Automation Wizards LLC and is a different app from the Pickleball Drills below. Its App Store listing describes a video drill library and an AI coach chat that builds a session from a request, such as 30 minutes with no partner. It also has a full-screen drill timer, a skill tracker, a pre-game warm-up, a daily drill with streaks and a library of short form clips stored on your phone. The listing says 200+ drills and the site says 300, so we give no count. It's on iPhone (iOS 17.6 or later), needs no account, and had 2 ratings, both 5.0, when we checked.

Price on the US App Store: free. The site says the free tier includes 5 AI coach sessions a day and that Premium removes the cap and unlocks the full drill library, but we couldn't find a Premium price on the listing or the site.

Drill libraries

Pickleball Drills (Pickleball Playbook)

Pickleball Drills, from Pickleball Playbook LLC, is a library of drills with video instruction and pro tips, including wall drills for practicing at home and ball machine drills for the court. The listing says new drills are added monthly and sorts them by skill level. It's on iPhone and iPad (iOS 16.0.2 or later) and is rated 4.8 from 311 ratings on the US App Store. Free to download; in-app subscriptions are $19.99 a month, $89.99 biannual or $149.99 a year.

Pickleball Drills & Guide

Pickleball Drills & Guide, from Mary Ann Adelman, is the simple option: drills with illustrated explanations, guides to form, strategy and game situations, a list of skills to practice, a stats tracker and notes for lessons and clinics. It's on iPhone and iPad (iOS 17.6 or later), and Google Play lists it as Pickleball Drills and Guide, also at $1.99. On the US App Store it costs $1.99 once, with no in-app purchases listed. It's the only drill app here that we found on both stores.

Practice Pickleball

Practice Pickleball is a free website. You browse drills (many with video), and it builds a practice session from your level, goals and available time, with a warm-up, drills and a cool-down. It also has shot guides and solo practice guides, including wall practice. Its site says it's free with no account, and doesn't mention an iOS or Android app.

Practicing the swing with no court: ShadowSwing

This is ShadowSwing's job, and it's the only job it does on this list. Hold your phone like the paddle and swing. The pickleball sound plays at contact only once the paddle head is moving fast enough, so a stiff, pushed swing stays silent. It counts swings, fills a daily goal ring and runs coach-voice workouts with pickleball presets, such as Third-shot drops and, with Pro, Dink marathon and Transition zone. With Pro you also get paddle-head speed on every swing. Its 3D replay shows the path of the paddle head and where its face pointed, for drives and volleys, not for dinks, drops or the serve.

The limits matter. It doesn't track the ball, so there's no ball speed, spin or placement. It doesn't watch your body, so it can't check your stance, footwork or contact point. The sound is built for the wrist whip, so on touch shots like the dink or the reset it isn't the judge, and a quiet rep can be a good one. It doesn't give you a rating, it isn't a coach, and it doesn't replace court time.

It works well alongside the others: a video app shows what breaks down in a game, and ShadowSwing is one way to get reps between sessions. For the routine, see pickleball practice at home. For why a phone's motion can stand in for a camera at home, see do you need a camera to practice your swing at home?

Price on the US App Store: free to download, no account. Pro removes the limits and is $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year. The app shows the price for your region. Prices vary by country. iPhone and Android (8.0 or later).

How to choose, by goal

Technique at home

You want to rehearse strokes without a court, ball or partner. Use ShadowSwing for swing reps with feedback, and the at-home guide for the routine. For shot-specific technique, see the guides to the dink, third shot drop, drive, volley, reset and serve.

Video review of your games

You get regular court time and want to see patterns. PB Vision or SwingVision turn filmed play into stats and ratings. Pickle Sensei and PaddleMind are closer to a one-stroke check-up.

Structured drills with a partner

You want a plan to run on court. Pickleball Drills has a paid video library, Practice Pickleball has a free session planner, and Coach Pickle and PB Drills add a chat coach that builds sessions.

Solo wall practice

No partner, a wall and a ball. Practice Pickleball, Pickleball Drills and PB Drills all list wall drills. ShadowSwing covers the days with no wall.

Do you need an app at all?

No. Lessons, court time and regular games do most of the work. Apps help with specific jobs. If you're new, how to play pickleball covers the rules, scoring and the court before any app does.

Questions

What is the best pickleball training app?

It depends on the job. PB Vision and SwingVision turn filmed games into stats, Pickle Sensei and PaddleMind score one stroke, and the drill apps give you structured sessions. ShadowSwing, which we make, is for swing reps at home with no court. Prices and features checked 22 October 2026.

Is there an app to practice pickleball alone?

Yes. Practice Pickleball is a free website with solo wall drills, and PB Drills' AI coach can build a no-partner session. Pickle Sensei and PaddleMind score a single stroke you film. ShadowSwing counts your swings with no court, ball or wall, using your phone as the paddle.

What's the best AI pickleball coach app?

There's no single best. Coach Pickle and PB Drills are chat coaches that build drills, Pickle Sensei and PaddleMind score one recorded stroke on iPhone, and PB Vision analyzes whole games. All are AI-based and described by their makers, so try the free option first. ShadowSwing isn't an AI coach: it measures swing speed.

Are there free pickleball training apps?

Yes. Practice Pickleball is a free website with no account. PaddleMind gives two free analyses and Pickle Sensei one, PB Drills has a free tier, and Coach Pickle offers a 7-day trial. PB Vision and Pickleball Drills are free to download with paid plans. ShadowSwing is free to download, no account.

Can an app analyze my pickleball swing from video?

Yes. PB Vision analyzes match video, giving shot stats and skill ratings. Pickle Sensei and PaddleMind take one short clip and return scores and a fix. Treat scores as a guide, not a verdict, next to a coach's eye. ShadowSwing doesn't use video: it measures your swing with the phone's motion sensors.

Is there a pickleball training app for Android?

Fewer than for iPhone. PB Vision and Pickleball Drills & Guide have Google Play listings, Coach Pickle's site lists Android, and ShadowSwing runs on Android 8.0 or later. Pickle Sensei, PaddleMind and PB Drills have no Android version we could find, and SwingVision says it has none yet.

Do I need a court or a partner to use a pickleball app?

Camera apps like PB Vision, SwingVision, Pickle Sensei and PaddleMind need a real shot or game to film. Drill apps mix partner, wall and solo drills. ShadowSwing needs none of it: you hold your phone like a paddle and swing at home, with no ball, court or partner.

Can an app replace a pickleball coach?

No. Apps can show patterns, count reps and give you a number to track. They can't read a game the way a coach does, or teach positioning and strategy with a partner. Use apps for the specific jobs above, and keep lessons and court time for what only they teach.
